The Lalbagh botanical garden is spread over an area of 240 acres and is home to almost 1854 plant species. The garden was commissioned by Hyder Ali in the year 1760 and was completed by his son Tipu Sultan. Walk through the garden to find many rare plants of Persian, Afghani and French origin. You would also find many species of birds such as the Common Egret, Myna, Purple Moor Hen and the Brahminy Kite. The Lalbagh Rock is estimated to be more than 3000 million years old making it one of the most sought after tourist places in South India. The other attractions at Lalbagh include the glass house, the floral clock and an aquarium.
